Where can I find you?
My main office is in Hawthorne, New York, across from Westchester Medical Center. My satellite office is in Fishkill, New York, in the Westage Business Center. I have operating privileges at Westchester Medical Center, Vassar Hospital Ambulatory Surgery Center, and Dobbs Ferry Community Hospital.
My main phone number is (914)789-2735.
What is an "academic" surgeon? What advantages can a surgeon with a full-time academic appointment offer me?
As an academic surgeon, I am actively involved in educating the next generation of Orthopedic Surgeons. I take this responsibility very seriously. As an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery, I must be up to date on the scientific literature in my chosen specialty. Like all other specialties, Orthopedic Surgery is constantly evolving. New research is published monthly. An academic surgeon will generally be well versed in the current scientific literature, and will alter clinical practice and teaching responsibilities accordingly. An academic surgeon focuses on the use of Evidence-Based Medicine to determine the best approach to managing patients' problems.
Do you accept most insurance plans?
We accept some insurance plans. If you have Out-of-Network benefits, we will make every effort to accommodate you, with minimal financial impact.
If you have been referred to an academic sub-specialist, do not let the insurance industry dictate whether or not you can be seen in my office.
My staff is here to help you. Call Jenn, Judy, or Bill at (914)789-2735. Out of Network does not mean out of options!
What procedures do you most commonly perform?
As the Chief of Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at Westchester Medical Center, I perform hundreds of complex primary and revision knee and shoulder arthroscopic reconstructions every year. The knee replacements I perform are muscle-sparing, "minimally invasive," and computer-navigated to increase the likelihood of correct positioning. I do not perform hip replacement surgery or hip resurfacing, but my expert colleague Scott Russinoff does.
What specialized procedures do you perform?
Nearly all the shoulder and knee procedures I perform are Arthroscopic, or minimally invasive.
I probably perform more cartilage transplant procedures than anyone else in the Hudson Valley. These procedures are not meant to treat the severely arthritic knee; they are indicated to treat isolated defects in the cartilage caused by trauma. We have also performed several Carticel autologous chondrocyte implantations.
