In this video Dr Jeff Berg and I discuss fractures of the clavicle, or the collarbone.
Fractures of the clavicle typically occur from a fall, or a direct impact injury. The treatment of clavicle or collarbone fractures continues to evolve. 20 years ago most fractures were treated without surgery. Then 10 years ago our treatment recommendations changed and most Orthopedic Surgeons recommended surgery for clavicle fractures. Today (2017) we try to use a more useful approach to determine which clavicle fractures might benefit from surgery, and could be left to heal on their own.
This post, on 4 common myths about the management of clavicle fractures is worthwhile reading too.
As usual, our disclaimer should be read first.
