There are still a multitude of physician colleagues who roll their eyes or gaze off to some distant point when I approach them about the topic of social media and healthcare….
If this video doesn’t wake them up… I don’t know what will. Perhaps as social media becomes more pervasive in healthcare, and these physicians realize a decrease in patient volume and/or revenue because their patients are seeking out social media savvy physicians a wake up call will ensure…. who knows.
It was 10 years ago that patients wanted to be able to email their physicians. Now people prefer micro-blogging platforms (Yammer, etc) to email. Physician never quite joined on to the email bandwagon. Will they catch on to micro-micro-blogging?????
Physicians must be engaged and active in social media… we need to be there as a team leader or member to aid our patients in navigating the vast (and frequently incorrect) amount of information out there.
- The time is now.
- The need is now.
- Our patients are out there NOW.
Well… colleagues and other health care providers…. you ready?
We are ALL patients!
