There have now been a number of articles published that show that stretching does not reduce injuries from running. Other studies have shown that static stretching (what most of you do) actually weakens the muscle and limits your running potential.
We as physicians face this sort of issue all the time. Stretching intuitively seems that it would be beneficial to us before and after running or exercising. How many more papers will need to come out before this is mainstream advice?
When I tell patients this in the office they look at me like I have two heads… until I pull up the papers… now we have another study to add to that list.
